Christmas Cookies
As far back as I can remember the women in my family would gear up for the Christmas holidays by starting their Christmas cookies baking shortly into the month of November. Each weekend our house would be filled in with the sweet aroma of Christmas cookies for others to enjoy at a later date. If the children were helpful, we might be so obliged to sample a small part of each batch of Christmas cookies as they come out of the oven ready to be packaged up for others. There were even a few years where my mother and her sisters would bake multiple batches of Christmas cookies and trade with each other to have more of a variety for their packages of Christmas cookies. This simplified the process for each of them and was highly effective.
In a vast, materialistic world based on how much one spends or the quantity some one receives, it is a welcomed relief to obtain a homemade present of Christmas cookies that has been put together for you with the knowledge of your own personal tastes and appetite. There is nothing more enjoyable than being able to absorb as many different types of Christmas cookies as you possibly can. Especially if they came pre-packaged for you as a special treat from a friend or loved one.
One creative option to package up this wonderful bounty of Christmas cookies is in a decorative tin that can be purchased at any discount store, garage sales, or flea-market swap meets. Many of these tins for Christmas cookies will still be in great shape and just need a good cleaning and a nice bow to top them off. Another cost-effective solution would be to reuse old margarine or cottage cheese containers decorated with your children's Christmas craft pages or even copies of family pictures throughout the year. One year I copied all the pictures of my children with Santa that I have acquired over the years and used them as wrapping paper for my Christmas cookies instead of a cookie tin. Even a plain bowl or plate decorated with festive paper will dress up your Christmas cookies creation.
There are many types of Christmas cookies that you can prepare, both baked and unbaked, that will please and tempt the palate of family, friends or co-workers. You will have to research about the recipient to determine if they favor nuts, chocolate, or even fruits in order to design a theme for an exceptional personalized Christmas cookies gift.
