Christmas Lights
Once a year, homes all over will glow with a variety of Christmas lights both outside and inside. On the outside, Christmas lights can illuminate your home with calmness that only a downy snowfall can accentuate during the dusk of the evening. While inside your home, Christmas lights will enhance any holiday design.
Originally, candles lit up a Christmas tree in a home during the festive season and weren't replaced with a manufactured string of Christmas lights until the early 1900's. There are many different types of Christmas lights on the market today that you can choose from in order to reach the desired effect you require for your holiday decorating. Deciding on LED Christmas lights will save you almost 80% on your electricity bill and will stay cooler than traditional lights making them safer for indoor use.
There are two main types of indoor Christmas lights that you can purchase; these include the customary Christmas lights or novelty lights. Novelty Christmas lights are manufactured in two main types - shaped bulbs and shaped strings. Novelty Christmas lights are a fantastic way to individualize a regular Christmas display and add character to your home.
Outdoor Christmas lights come in a variety of styles designed for any home. You can utilize mini Christmas lights or icicle lights to differentiate your display. Christmas net lights are an easy way to decorate bushes or trees and a Christmas spotlight will illuminate a nativity display on your front lawn with ease.
Traditionally, parents will plan family evenings out in order to view all the Christmas light displays around town both at the neighbor's and at city parks. Many cities will have a Christmas lights display as well as activities for families such as sledding with hot chocolate provided. In my city we have a designated area of town that is decorated end to end and has been renamed 'Candy Cane Lane'. You can either drive through or walk along the trails and enjoy each display at your leisure. I continue this ritual with my own children each year by making more than one trip out during the evenings to view as many Christmas light displays as possible.
Taking pictures of outdoor Christmas lights during one of your family excursions can be somewhat of a hassle if not done properly. The trick is to take your perfect Christmas light display picture before it gets too dark and you are unable to pick up the surroundings in your picture. There is a short time around the dusk of evening where your pictures will view the illuminated Christmas lights as well as the softness of the background. You will be able to enjoy your Christmas light pictures much more if you are able to capture exactly what you can see with the naked eye rather than a blurred version of Christmas lights on a dark background.
Always remember safety when setting up and taking down your Christmas lights. Check for breaks in the electrical lines for exposed wires or broken bulbs. Discard any strings of Christmas lights that look like they may be too worn for use. By following simple safety procedures, you will avoid any unnecessary hazards in the future. Christmas lights are a fun way of visually celebrating the Christmas season. Have fun with your lights; enjoy the time you have with your family when comparing Christmas lights of others during this holiday season.
Happy lighting!
