Each Christmas Eve no matter what lies beneath the tree, the Christmas stockings are always so welcoming with their overflowing surprises spilling out, waiting to be explored by eager hands.
This Christmas stockings tradition has been varied over the years while children in other countries such as Italy, Holland and France leave out their shoes the night before Christmas as opposed to Christmas stockings. The traditional purpose of a Christmas stocking is to include 5 main items that will be enjoyed for Christmas morning. These include something to eat, a toy or item to enjoy, a visually pleasing trinket such as jewelry or books, an article with tactical appeal which can encompass socks or lingerie or even modeling clay, and a special surprise with a distinctive scent such as bubble bath, cologne or perfume.
In some traditions, Christmas stockings are investigated on Christmas Eve, while in other families, they are the first to be opened and enjoyed on Christmas morning. Growing up in my home as a young child, unpacking our Christmas stockings was the one thing that we could enjoy early Christmas morning without waiting for the rest of the family to awake from their slumber.
